How To Help The Environment
Global warming is now recognized as a worldwide emergency, but what can be done about it? Chances are you’re keen to help but find it hard to figure out how. At Central Oregon SYNLawn® part of our mission is to help you go green. There are all sorts of simple, everyday ways you can contribute to the global push to get the climate back under control. Here are five suggestions for starters:
1. Drive less
Many cars run on gas, producing carbon-heavy fumes which damage the world’s atmosphere, so these need to be reduced. If you can cut down your car use, that would be a great move. Perhaps, like many people, you use your car more than you really need to, so see if you can find ways to drive less often and less far. Central Oregon is becoming more bicycle friendly. Make a habit of asking yourself if you can use alternatives before reaching for your keys.
2. Use low energy light bulbs
Lighting contributes significantly to global warming through the electricity they burn, but fortunately, low energy alternatives are now widely available. They can be expensive, per bulb, compared with traditional ones, but they last much longer and will also reduce your electricity bills. Make a habit of switching off lights when leaving a room, whatever kind of bulbs you use. Festive tree lights and outdoor lighting also consume electricity, of course, so go easy on these, too. Central Oregon has beautiful lighting during the summer and year round- open your blinds instead of flipping the switch.
3. Use less paper
The shortage of greenery is made worse by society’s heavy demand for paper, cardboard, and other tree products. If everyone used less paper, this would help considerably. You can do your bit simply by cutting back on printouts or using your screen rather than a notebook for jottings and letters. If you use filter papers for your coffee, switch to a coffee jug instead. See if you can last out your kitchen rolls a little longer. You can also discourage wasteful packaging of products at the factory stage by selecting loose or lightly wrapped items instead when shopping. Central Oregon, and Bend in particular, has several bulk shopping centres you can shop at to reduce paper and plastic waste.
4. Recycle
Be sure to comply with your local recycling system, as this will save resources and reduce the need for replacements. Central Oregon has different recycling zones, so make sure you know which one you’re in. This will reduce climate-damaging factory fumes. But, you don’t need to follow the science to know that recycling is considered key to the cause. You can also make your own recycling arrangements, such as composting leftover food to make garden manure and taking unwanted goods to a thrift shop.
5. Don’t let the grass grow
Grass is a huge drain on resources. Many don’t realise just how detrimental grass lawns are. Switching to a SYNLawn® turf saves hundred of gallons of water. Not only this, but with an artificial turf, there is no need to use harmful pesticides and weeding agents. In addition, no mowing means no gasoline fumes. There are no doubts about it- if you want to help the environment, switch to Central Oregon SYNLawn®.
Pick any of these simple ideas, or all of them together, and incorporate them into your lifestyle. With every eco-friendly gesture, you’ll be contributing to the global effort to reduce the heat. Finally, here’s one more to add on top: inspire your friends to follow suit.
